one poem by Inky Montaine

chain

After Rations

I heard screaming from

A bowl of rice

This wasn’t supposed to happen

Days were spent on the roof

With a stick and six broken fingers

The shock of the moon in slaughtered chunks

Showed the contours of a body more content

Than certain

This is work

With teeth like slivers

We gnaw at the dawn of our potential

Giving little hiccups of milk

We sucked off the tit

Of a mother animal

We will murder

Here

Let’s break a bottle against the side

Of our building

And send it sailing out

Into an ocean of need

See the windows winking farewell

As it licks the horizon

Braving distant lands

Or merely sinking
